Free Acer Smartphones this Christmas

I am starting to do my Christmas shopping. In the coming weeks, my list of household chores will have a new entry: wrapping gifts for my friends and loved ones.

Year after year, I have a recurring dilemma. Thinking of a gift to that one person I might have neglected the most in years: myself.

While on the lookout for a gift to thy self, I saw this Acer TV commercial aired during last night’s episode of The Voice Philippines. It's the #MerryMe: Acer 'Buy 1 Gift 1' TVC with Toni Gonzaga and Paul Soriano.

It’s indeed a very merry Christmas as Acer Philippines treats its loyal customers to FREE smartphones this holiday season with the ‘Buy 1 Gift 1’ promo.

The promo was launched last November 15, 2014 and will run until December 31, 2014. Customers who will buy any eligible Windows 8-based, Intel® Core™ -powered Acer laptops and 2-in-1 devices from any of the participating stores within the promo period will receive an Acer Liquid Z200  smartphone for FREE! That’s basically two quality and quality tech products for the prize of one.

Claiming of the free smartphone is so easy. Customers just need to fill out a copy of the “Buy 1 Gift 1” promo claim form and submit it along with the original copy of the Official Receipt, a cut-out of the product’s box Serial number, and two valid ID cards at the Acer Philippines, Inc. office.

Their office is located at the 9th floor, Fifth Avenue Building, 32nd Street corner 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Redemption is from Monday to Friday (9am – 5pm)

The good people from Acer anticipated queries for other redemption/ availment areas so they have designated the following locations where the smartphones can also be claimed:
1.  Acer Service Centre – Manila, 1651 Paz Guazon Street, Paco, Manila
2.  Acer Service Center – Cebu City at the AMV Brothers Building, 9 F. Cabahug corner Almendras Streets, Mabolo, Cebu City.
3.  Acer Service Centre- Davao City at the Ground Floor of Ateneo De Davao University, 8016 Roxas Avenue, Davao City.

Claiming schedule at these locations are from Monday to Friday(9am – 5pm) and Saturdays (9am – 12nn).

And if you’re really a very busy person like me (say you can’t leave important stuff like playing Clash of Clans, watching your favorite afternoon shows or have some work and school related activities to attend to), the great news is you can also claim your free smartphone via email (if Acer will not get an award for Best Costumer Service for doing this, I don’t know what brand can equal such after extra mile sales service).

Customers only need to submit a clear scanned copy of the required documents and email to promos@acer.com or aphi.promos@acer.com, and follow up via (02) 815-33-88 local 100 and 125. The Acer Liquid Z200 Smartphone will be shipped directly to the registered address indicated in the submitted Buy 1 Gift 1 promo claim form. Per DTI-FTEB SPD Permit #4782 Series of 2014.

Visit the Acer Philippines Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AcerPH) or follow Acer via Twitter (twitter.com/acerphils). For more details go to www.acer.com.ph.

6 reasons to watch “VIY: The Spirit of Evil” aside from a chance to win an iPhone 6

Halloween is just a couple of weeks from now and for sure you are already thinking of a scary movie where you’ll have a chance to hug or cling on your date especially during creepy scenes. Well, I have one “astig” recommendation which I saw last night at My Cinema, Greenbelt 3 during a special screening by Futuretainment, Inc.

I have six reasons for you to watch VIY: The Spirit of Evil and on top of them is a hair-raising news that you might end up owning a brand new iPhone 6 by just watching the film which will be shown in 3D in select theatres in Metro Manila, and in in 2D nationwide starting October 22.

1.  “VIY: The Spirit of Evil” is a hit dark fantasy film loosely based the story “Viy” by Nikolai Gogol, a legendary Russian poet. Gogol has been featured many times on Russian and Soviet postage stamps; he is also well represented on stamps worldwide. Several commemorative coins have been issued from Russia and the USSR. In 2009, the National Bank of Ukraine issued a commemorative coin dedicated to Gogol.  At least ten streets have been named after Gogol in various towns and cities and Russia.

2.  If you’re a big fan of the worldwide monster HBO hit series “Game of Thrones” and deeply missed just about everything about the said TV show, you’ll have at least Charles Dance who plays Tywin Lannister in GOT in an important role in VIY. Plus, shades of special effects, gore and brutality of GOT can be felt in the movie.  VIY was shot in Prague at the Gatteo, Barrandov, and Letnyany studios, world-renowned locations that are also called the "European Hollywood" and home to the production of many blockbusters such as Van Helsing, The Brothers Grimm, The Chronicles of Narnia, Casino Royale, Hellboy, and Blade.

3.  VIY is produced by Russian Film Group and Marins Group and is distributed internationally by Universal Pictures, one of Hollywood so-called “Big Six” film studios. Lead star Jason Flemyng, who played the role of “Master Scientist” Jonathan Green, has also appeared in some of recent Hollywood box-office hits like Transporter 2; Case of Benjamin Button; Clash of the Titans; Kick-Ass; and X-Men: First Class.

4.  VIY is the name of the dark and notorious monster responsible for the deaths of many village people in a sleepy 17th century Ukrainian village. It’s most terrifying ability is to murder and cut through the soul of any one with just the gaze of his many eyes. There is one very creepy sequence in the film where a number of terrifying monsters of all shapes and sizes appeared that made me blurt, “This is nightmare!”

5.  Jason Flemyng on VIY: “It's a classic story of redemption and of love and of adventure. “The special effects and the 3D is as good if not better as I've ever seen it, so the potential is limitless. I've made a hundred films now and five of them I love, and Viy is one of those five.”

6. The film became a certified hit when it was first released in Russia earlier this year. The first weekend take was $17 million, an all-time record for a Russian movie.

Now if I happen to convince you to watch VIY, hold on dearly to the tickets that you’ll purchase because they might be your only chance ever of owning an iPhone 6. Here’s how:

a. All viewers of the movie are qualified to join the promo.

b. Participants must write their name and signature on their movie ticket (the side where the movie title is visible), and then take a selfie with their movie ticket.

c.  Go to the movie’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/futuretainmentinc and they must like th page and click the Watch and Win iPhone 6 promo logo for the next step and complete details.

d. There will be 3 winners of an iPhone 6 unit each, which will be drawn on October 25, 28, and 31.

e. Winners will be announced via Futuretainment FB account, Instagram account (@futureupdate) and the registered mail. Participants can only win once during the entire promo.

If this stuff still can’t charm you to watch VIY, don’t let the monsters in the film (watch the trailer below) make you.

Hoodie You Want

What do you get when you cross Christmas breeze and monsoon rain? People wearing hoodies.

Well, that’s not actually a joke since hoodies are definitely one of the hottest things today. Well, they look cool, too.

A hoodie, also called a hooded sweatshirt or hoody, is a sweatshirt with a hood (apologies for the redundancies because I just want to make it really clear that my readers are thinking of the same hoddie that I have in mind).

But do you know the story behind the hoodie aside from the fact that it is a clothing with a muff sewn onto the lower front, a hood, and usually a drawstring to adjust the hood opening, and may have a vertical zipper down the center similar to a windbreaker style jacket?

Here are 7 Hoodie Trivia that you might find interesting:

1. The garment's style and form can be traced back to Medieval Europe when the normal clothing for monks included a long, decorative hood called a cowl attached to a tunic or robes, and a chaperon or hooded cape was very commonly worn by any outdoors worker.

2. The hooded sweatshirt was first produced in the United States starting in the 1930s by Champion in and marketed to laborers working who endured freezing temperatures while working in upstate areas.

3. The hoodie took off in the 1970s, with several factors contributing to its success. Hip hop culture developed in New York City around this time, and the hoodie's element of instant anonymity provided by the accessible hood.

4. Most critical to the hoodie's popularity during the 70's was its iconic appearance in the blockbuster boxing film Rocky.

5. By the 1990s, the hoodie had evolved into a symbol of isolation, a statement of academic spirit, and several fashion collections.  Young men, often skateboarders or surfers, sported the hoodie and spread the trend across the western United States. The rise of hoodies with university logos began around this time.

6. Hoodie Day was launched in May 2008 in New Zealand as part of an annual national Youth Week, a pro-youth initiative to challenge youth stereotypes.

7. In April 2013, the highly durable "10-Year Hoodie" was invented. The hooded sweatshirt is 100% cotton and the American manufacturers sourced yarns that are spun to become softer over time to ensure durability.

Now if you still don’t have a hoodie to wear during the cold weather, you have a chance to get one courtesy of 7-Eleven’s Health and Beauty promo HOODIE TIME, a rewards/ loyalty promotion using your 7-Eleven  Every Day! rewards card.  You can get a FREE limited edition hoodie (two designs to choose from) when you accumulate P1,000 worth of Personal Care product purchases.

Transform yourself with Schick

When I was young, I had this crazy thought that I am being raised by superheroes.

I often see my father works on wood and nails and just about anything to make a chair, stair case, dog house, pigeon cage, and the likes with the help of his utility belt.  He has tools to saw lumber, twist metals and (I hope he won’t find out that I said this) I caught him one time hammering garlic while cooking adobo.  He’s resourcefulness and love for “gadgets” is comparable to Batman.

How about my mother? Our ever loving Nanay can do just about anything--- from taking care of her children to cooking meals, from washing clothes and cleaning the house--- without a trace of her getting tired. I see her accomplished tasks with dedication even though it’s the same things she’s been doing at home every day. She deserves to be called as Wonder Woman with such amazing ability.

Thus, I also have this fantasy of being a superhero someday while growing up. Now that I’m already in my thirties, the illusion of being able to wear a cape, fly high and run as fast as a bullet train still tickle my imagination. Now, if the Gods from Planet Krypton can read this, I hope they can lend me the powers of Clark Kent even for a limited time so I can finally realize things I can only witness in my dreams. Even if I have to wear my underwear over my pants, I’ll do it for the sake of being the Man of Steel for seven days.

This would be my schedule for that super week which will be a world tour of sort:

Monday – I’ll go on an Asian tour. I will complete the Great Wall of China in 10 seconds, free fall from the Burj Kalifa in Dubai, eat tons of sushi and tempura in Tokyo, watch a K-Pop concert for free while floating on top of the Olympic Stadium in Seoul and of course, shop in Hong Kong.

Tuesday - I’ll visit the land down under. I will chase kangaroos and play with its joeys, race with a Tasmanian Devil, throw a boomerang and try to catch it in mid air while blindfolded, and watch shows outside the Sydney Opera House using my x-tray vision.

Wednesday – I’ll travel to Europe. I will try to fix the Leaning Tower of Pisa, go out on a date with a girl from Paris and hopefully experience genuine French kiss (if not, will just order fries at a fast food store), get soaked in London rain and pay respect to Pope Francis.

Thursday – I’ll circle South America. I’ll attend costume parties in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, go on a deep sea diving exploration in the Caribbean Sea, be literally on the middle of the planet at Ecuador and try to get a cameo role in a Venezuelan soap opera.

Friday – I’ll explore Africa. I will try stop sand storms in Sahara desert, check and fix cracks on the pyramids of Egypt, tame a cheetah or a rhino, learn new survival skills in the Safari, and relax and take a quick shower at Victoria falls.

Saturday – I’ll journey to North America. I will try to catch live NBA games in every city stop, guess at Ellen or Oprah’s show and show my super singing skills, party at New York City or Las Vegas and try to run and jump from East coast to West coast as fast as I can.

Sunday – I’ll be in the best place in the world. And that’s in the loving arms of my wife and son Charles. I will be the Super Dad at home for the day and they can ask me anything they want which is probably a piece of cake since I’m Superman, right?

But being the Man of Steel is not just about strength and the power to fly or run fast.  You also have to be street smart and you think sharp like the razor of Schick.

Incidentally, Schick is giving away tickets to the special screening of Man of Steel plus other premium items though their Superman promo. All you have to do is click the image below and you will be directed to the contest page. Always remember: Schick. Free Your Skin.
