It's #MerrySMChristmas Everyday

My son Charles as Santa's Little Helper at the SM Cubao's holiday display a few years ago.

Thank God for SM!” That’s how my son, who was three-years old then, expressed his happiness when he finally got the toy he describes as something he's “dreaming of all his life.”

It was Charles’ last birthday party and everyone in the family was trying to get her vote: Who had given him the best gift that day? It was quite amusing because, looking at the mountain of presents, gift wrappers with SM logos dominated the landscape. This is understandable because SM Megamall is just a few blocks away from our house.

The winner was Papa Lohel who bought the Dinosaur toy for his very makulit apo. We were thinking of filing a protest because we found out that he secretly asked Charles what he wanted for her birthday when they visited SM a week before the occasion. But we decided not to after he promised to treat us to dinner the following week. As usual, it was at the SM Food Court.

I got served served at Army Navy - SM Megamall
Speaking of Papa Lohel, another funny incident happened on his birthday recently. Knowing that he likes Sahara brand polo shirts, it was a no-brainer that this would be a gift he would surely appreciate. So when he opened his presents, he was amused to find three almost identical shirts — one from his wife Inday, one from daughter Hazel and one from daughter-in-law Minnie. Blame it on SM, they said. Good thing they all had different tastes in color.

Basically, SM has been a part of our family’s everyday life since it opened. From the food we eat, the plates, forks and spoons we buy, our frying pans and stoves, to the clothes we wear — even my boxers come from SM. I am a bargain bin scavenger and I’m not shy to say it: yup, one of my pairs of boxer shorts came from there.

With my boo at SM Cubao Toy Section
No important family occasion passes without a touch of SM. The mall is true to its motto: “We’ve got it all for you.” It’s like a one-stop candy store and we’re like kids excited to buy our stuff, going to one escalator to another.  Look for new appliances? Pick up home improvement tools and materials? Clothes to impress our partners? Where is the best place to buy Christmas gifts?  You can do all these things in one place, at the most reasonable prices, only at SM. And I still haven’t mentioned that we also do our groceries, bill payments and even banking at SM. (I must sound like a hard-sell TV commercial, but I’m sure I am not the only one.)

Rain or shine, I love joining events at the SM Activity Center
Speaking of Christmas, I am so grateful to my favorite mall simply because I have had a lot of great experiences and memories that happened there that can make me feel like it’s the happiest time of the year. My first date as a high school geek was inside SM Megamall. The first thing I bought with my very first paycheck was at the SM Record Bar (it was a cassette tape of the Eraserheads’ “Sticker Happy” album). I bought my first cellphone (a Nokia 5110) at SM City, Sta. Mesa. I could write a book on my life’s firsts and SM would be mentioned in many, many chapters.

It's a wrap! We're ready for the exchange gifts.
Thus, for me a #MerrySMChristmas does not just happen during December. It can happen any time  of the year. That magical feeling that you get when you give your best effort to scan every shirt designs at the SM Teen section to find the gift that can make your younger brother happy. How about the endless window shopping with your best friends and your promise that you will buy them all they want the moment you win the jackpot in lotto? Or buying baby cloths and feeding bottles with your pregnant wife who’s expecting your first baby soon, and moments like you care to share the spirit of Christmas to children of orphanages and charitable institution through the SM Cares Program's Bears of Joy.

Ahhh…  the joy that one can only find in SM. The spirit of giving that we thought can only or should only happen during the holidays is unfolding every day in our favorite shopping mall.

Thus, I totally agree with my son, “Thank God for SM!”

It's like a Merry Christmas for Charles in every visit to his favorite section at any SM Mall.
You too can experience a #MerrySMChristmas, visit http://bit.ly/MerrySMChristmas for more details on events of the nearest SM Mall in your place this season. Also, watch this cute video “How #MerrySMChristmas Begins” featuring Cheska and Kendra Kramer. Happy holidays, everyone!

The case of the mystery 500-peso Washing Machine

If you live in Pasig City, you might have already seen this sign about a washing machine on sale for only P500.

Well if you're someone who have a household who can build a mountain out of cloths for only a week like me, you'll definitely want to get a hold of this special offer. The cheapest washing machine posted in Lazada.com.ph is at P4200. So that's about more than 500% discount if my Math is correct.

But is it really P500 per unit? Are there strings attached? Since things like this interest me, I made a sort of an investigation on this (actually I just took time to read what's written on the tarpaulin).

Yes, each Sharp Washing Machines will be sold for only P500 but for the first five (5) costumers only during the opening day of Uno Factory Outlet in Pasig City on December 5. Now let me define what "costumer" means. To avail of the promo, a costumer needs to buy a minimum of P2000 peso from their store. It's up to you what items as long you get the required amount in one receipt.

Now where is the store located? It's at the 2nd floor of Wellcome Grocery (Mercedez One), corner Mercedez Ave. and Market Ave., San Miguel, Pasig City.

An epic sale or fail? What do you think of the promo?

8 Things I Have Yet to Tell my Wife

Today is our 8th wedding anniversary and it still amazes me how on Earth my wife was able to survive (and continue to live on) my craziness, antics, tantrums, laziness and unpredictable ways for eight long years.

8 years. That’s 96 months or 384 weeks or 2880 days.

As part of my anniversary gift, I will finally tell her things that I have kept in me for such a long time.

1. I am still not a fan of ampalaya. But thank you mahal for patiently serving me bitter melon in different ways that I can eat it. You’re the only person who was able to persuade me to try this gulay and actually shallow it. Before, the only vegetable dishes that I eat are French fries, coleslaw and tempura.

2. I steal a kiss from you while you were sleeping when I come back from the bathroom at night. Where? In depends what part of you is not covered with blanket.

3.  Whenever you see toys scattered on the floor every morning, it’s not only Charles who did it. More often I am the culprit. Sorry. Sometimes I would still play with a Matchbox or Hotwheels car imagining me, you and Charles traveling to every place we wanted to go without any worries that we have work next day.

4.  Sometimes when I said I am not feeling well and can’t come with you, it’s actually just a basketball game that I don't want to miss. I still dream that someday you’ll finally learn to like the game I so love to play and watch. Well, at least you did accompany me during an NBA event  even you can't identify who Michael Jordan is then. Dami mong ganda points nun and lalo ko na-in love sa'yo for joing me at the Big Dome.

5. I cheated every time we play rock-paper-scissors. The good news is I can assure you those were the only times I cheated on you. Well, I did adjust the scoring functions of the videoke machine one time when we had a one-on-one singing challenge and that’s it.

6. I will not get you a Starbucks planner this year. Yes, you'll not have the 2015 version and sorry my love if the chain will be broken this year. I just feel that we’ve been spending a lot getting THE planner. I have better plans.

7. It hurts me so much inside whenever we had our petty fights. The more if I see you sad or sick. If only life is perfect that things will always go as we planned or things that make you lonely or disappointed are avoidable, I’ll trade a year of not watching basketball or The Walking Dead Game of Thrones just for you (or pwede one month lang?).

8. I married you not because I want someone who I can live with for the rest of my life but it’s because I can’t live without you in my life.

Happy anniversary, Mahal ko! I love you!

Beth Greene will be back in The Walking Dead

The simultaneous OMGs across the world was heard louder than the gun shot that took the life of Beth Greene in the mid-season finale of the The Walking Dead Season 5.

When Daryl Dixon cries, everyone cries. The hashtag #RIPBeth trended on Twitter worldwide for hours. This just shows the great impact the decision of the producers to kill Emily Kinney's character. Now, fans who have become attached with Beth are mourning. I can't remember when was the last time I've been affected this much after my favorite fictional character was taken out of a show.

I know I am not the only one who thinks that the decision to include Beth to the show's gone-too-soon list is a wrong decision. Well, we can just be thankful that our favorite blode zombie killer were given some heart-pounding heart-breaking and we-thought-you-and-Daryl-will-end-up episodes that we can play and replay for as many times as we please.

Well for those who still can't accept the fact that Beth will no longer be in the the next season to come, here's some glimmer of hope that she might be seen in TWD. And so I offer a toast, "Beth Greene will be back in the The Walking Dead!"

What are the chances? Slim but possible.

Possibility no. 1: Beth can do some cameos as part of a "memory of the past" of Daryl, her sister Maggie or even Carl Grimes who has yet to hear about the sad news.

Possibility no. 2: It's been reported that AMC has promised that TWD: 2.0 or a spin-off show that will shed light on a new, previously unseen corner of the zombie apocalypse or perhaps would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it.  Check out the TWD Webisodes to get a taste of the show is all about. An alive and kicking Beth Greene can even be a regular if we fans would let the shows writers and producers know how much we love her.
